Genetic Modification of Rice – Trivedi Science

Genetic Modification of Rice
 – Trivedi Science
Rice

is the staple food in a large number of underdeveloped countries and therefore a chief impoverished population in these nations depends majorly on rice for their food consumption. However, rice does not contain all the necessary nutrients to sustain human life to the fullest and hence people who depend so widely on rice do not consume balanced diet. As a result of this, scientists came up with the scheme of genetically modifying rice so that they can add certain required traits into it like pest resistance, generating nutrients, adding vitamins, increasing grain size etc.hus,

is a term that encompasses those varieties of rice that have been geneticallyengineered for a process called agrobacterium mediated transformation.
BT Rice:
! Rice is a form of
wherein a specific gene of the bacillusthuringiensis bacterium is articulated. his gene grants resistance to several pests consisting of the riceborer. he ! rice was initiated by the “hinese government which is doing many e#periments in the fieldand the country has also approved for its large$scale use since %&&’.
Golden Rice:
(ne of the central concerns is the deficiency of vitamin A in rice. o do away with this problemor to diminish the effects, the golden rice was proposed. )t is a genetically modified variety of rice that nowcontains a large amount of vitamin A. )t can be more precisely said to contain the element beta$carotenewhich is then converted into the body into vitamin A. Hence, when someone consumes the golden rice, theyget more vitamin A.
Allergen free rice:
)n *apan, a number of projects are being worked out to develop rice cultivars that do notpose problems to people with rice allergies. )n this e#perimentation, the scientists have been trying to inhibitthe activity of a gene that is responsible for the formation of an important allergen. he projects are stillunderway and have not met +&& success.

has several advantages but it is also criticized by many. he benefits of this process can be-
1.
his rice can have specific advantages to poor people in the third$world countries. heir diet may be lackingin several nutrients and hence rice like the golden rice can provide them with the essential vitamins required for growth and a complete diet.
2.
)n the same way, the use of pesticides and chemicals can be reduced for rice that is genetically engineered with pest resistance attributes. his can thereby improving the overall quality of the rice and reduce problems that can come up with extensive use of chemicals in food.espite of the criticism, scientists and many researchers believe that the use of
can beconstructive in the long run however it should be worked upon carefully.
Mahendra Trivedi
is known for a wide variety of e#experiment that his energy transmissions have been subjected to. )n the field of genetic engineering also,
 ®
has shown some miraculous results through increases in the polymorphism percentage for the treated plants. o know more about the different tests and researches conducted in the field of
